2013 is the New 2001: Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé and Destiny's Child

Yes, that is a cryptic Justin Timberlake tweet teasing something that could be anything from a Myspace update, to another bad movie that we're forced to suffer through just to see Justin's face, to dare I say it, possibly, just maybe, new music.

But before January 10, 2013, 9:01 am PST there was this:

Leave it up to Beyoncè and Destiny's Child to announce a new album and throw everyone into a tizzy right before Justin Timberlake tells the world that he is really in love with me and not Jessica makes his announcement. 

Finally, January 10, 2013 9:01 PST Justin is ready:

The moment I've been waiting for since 2006 Justin Timberlake is finally ready to do what he does best, make music. I'm not even irritated that the YouTube video was nothing but another tease that revealed a countdown to something else, which better be a song release, on Sunday at 9 pm PST. 

Just like that, this morning of January 10, 2013 felt a lot like a morning in 2001 where all we can talk about is anticipation for impending Justin Timberlake and Destiny's Child projects. Only now we talk about it on Twitter instead of listening to Carson talk about it on TRL. This year is starting off pretty great in my book. 

Watching Lana Del Rey in Los Angeles

This past week I got to see Lana Del Rey perform live at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. I was super excited about this because I've been listening to her album, Born to Die, NONSTOP since it was released in January. I was a little worried about her performance because her SNL appearance it was sketchy at best. Then when I mentioned to a friend about heading out to this show her response was "OMG, you're going to go see that girl whine to you in person?!" Of course I replied with an emphatic "ughhh, YES!!" It was totally worth it, Lana was awesome. The stage was beautiful and Lana sang all my favorite tracks on the album. So while some call it whining, I call it amazing. But decide for yourselves, here is some video I took at the show of Video Games.

New Shows to Watch in 2012

It's a new year and I've got 2 new shows that I suggest you check out.

NBC's The Firm premiered Sunday night with back-to-back episodes. I'm not the biggest fan of 2-hour TV episodes but this one was pretty good, plus I DVR'd it so I could skip the commercials! It's a little confusing in the beginning but if you stick it out it gets super intense. So if you got 90 minutes to spare check it out below and you can watch episode 3, in its regular time slot, this Thursday at 10 pm on NBC. 

My Artist of the Year

For the last blog post of 2011 I'm going to talk about why The Weeknd has my vote for artist of the year. If you have ever talked about music with me in 2011 this is absolutely no surprise at all, but if you haven't hear me out. Here are my 3 reasons why he has my vote:


1. He promised us 3 mixtapes this year and we got 3 mixtapes this year! He didn't just make 3 so-so projects he made 3 really solid projects. Fan or not you can't knock that hustle.

2. He's changing the sound of music. There is no deny his music sounds nothing like anything you are used to hearing it's a nice twist to how we usually think about R&B, I think I'm going to call his style sex, drugs, and R&B. If you don't know what I'm talking about give House of Balloons a spin and I guarantee you will completely understand what I am talking about. He's not just leaving his mark in R&B land, he is also influencing rap with some classic eerie Weeknd sounds. For those of you that don't know, The Weeknd had some major influence on the sound of Drake's latest album, Take Care. We all know after Drake does it the rest of the rap game will be close behind, so I'm sure we will hear plenty of similar sounds in 2012.

3. Finally, the music is just flat out great! I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I can't get enough of all 3 parts of the trilogy, House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence. Check out my favorite tracks from each mixtape

For kicks I'm adding D.D., which is a cover of Michael Jackson's Dirty Diana, because I really appreciate how it was mixed. I think it is just another glimpse into how creative he really is, D.D. sounds some much like his other work and yet it still has the original feel from MJ's version.

And The Nominees Are...

The Grammy nominations came out tonight and the nominees for Album of the Year are: Adele 21, The Foo Fighters Wasting Light, Lady Gaga Born This Way, Bruno Mars Doo-Wops & Hooligans, and Rihanna Loud. Now, I'm sure most of you are saying to yourself "You ain't got no Yeezy, nigga?!” but it's true, Ye wasn't nominated for Album of the Year but he's got Snub of the Year on lock. I thought for sure My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was going to get nominated and possibly edge out 21 for the win, guess I was wrong. If it makes you feel any better My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy still has a chance for Best Rap Album but the competition is stiff in that category. I know it doesn’t make me feel any better but I won’t go there. I won’t talk about how NARAS (the organization that runs the Grammys) is just another prejudice organization that is continuously reinforcing the barriers that were designed to stifle the success of minorities. Anyways, the Grammys are February 12^th, I’m sure there will be lots more to talk about then. 

The Sing-Off Love Lockdown Cover by Pentatonix

Apparently there is this show called the Sing-Off on NBC that is hosted by Nick Lachey which I am just hearing about. I was clearly late to the game on this one but now that I know let me tell you about it. The Sing-Off is a singing competition where the groups sing a cappella and last week was hip hop week so all the groups did covers of popular hip hop songs. My favorite performance was of Kanye West's Love Lockdown covered by Pentatonix. It was amazing! If they don't win the competition they definitely can have a Youtube career covering hip hop songs. Rihanna + Coldplay Means We All Found Love

I know the world has already talked about this video but I wanna talk about it again because I CANNOT stop watching it! Rihanna's We Found Love has definitely found my heart. I think I have seen this video close to 30 times. The monolouge in the beginning of the video sets the scene so perfectly.

It's like you're screaming but no one can hear. You almost feel ashamed that someone could be that important, that without them, you feel like nothing. No one will ever understand how much it hurts. You feel hopeless, like nothing can save you. And when it's over and it's gone, you almost wish that you could have all that bad stuff back so you can have the good.

I'm totally ready to take whatever type of opiates that are going to make me look like Rihanna and give me an eye candy of a boyfriend like Dudley O'Shaughnessy. I also ran across a Coldplay cover of We Found Love when I was on Tumblr so there is plenty of love to enjoy tonight. Make sure you check out the Coldplay cover below and the We Found Love video if you haven't already seen it or you can watch it for the 31st time like me!

Scott Hall the Man Behind Razor Ramon

How great of a show is E:60? I feel like I'm always in tears and completely inspired to conquer the world after watching each episode. This one was of course no different, the story that got to me the most was about professional wrestler Scott Hall a.k.a Razor Ramon. When I was younger I loved wrestling, I watched Monday night Raw religiously every Monday night at 9 pm.

For a while in the 90's it was almost impossible to go anywhere without seeing an nWo t-shirt. The camera was great at showing the rise to stardom of Razor Ramon, who was one of the founding members of nWo, but what the the camera didn't show was Scott Hall's addiction problems. E:60 did a great job of shedding light on the amazing career of Razor Ramon and the substance addiction of Scott Hall. Check it out below, I promise it's worth all 18 minutes.

My last post on this site was in January, sheesh! I guess I'm pretty bad at keeping up with this whole blogging thing. So it's October and I'm ready to give it another go. Let the fun begin!

Kanye & Jay-Z, The Game, and The Social Network All on 1.11.11

January 11, 2011 is sure to be busy day because people love dates with the same number. I'm sure countless people will be tying the knot but 1.11.11 will be busy for reasons other than marriage. One reason is because this is the release date for the much anticipated single "H.A.M" off of Kanye West and Jay-Z's project Watch The Throne. Mr. West tweeted the artwork for the single earlier this week. The second reason is the return of the popular tv show The Game. After being canceled by the CW in 2009 BET has picked the show up for new episodes. The fourth season begins with the 1 hour season premiere at 10pm. One the film front, The Social Network will be released to DVD on Tuesday. The film has 6 Golden Globe nominations including Best Picture. With all this to watch and listen to what will you be doing on 1.11.11?

Pre-Game Speech Lifts Team to Win

Before last night's GoDaddy.com Bowl game Lance Guidry, the interim head coach for Miami University (which is actually located in Ohio), gave his team easily one of the best pre-game speeches. His speech was not in vain Miami University went on to defeat Middle Tennessee (35-21). Even with the win Miami University will not be giving Guidry the full time head coach position. Don Treadwell will be the new head coach. Even though Treadwell will be the head coach he should probably let Guidry handle the pre-game speeches. Check out the speech below. You can't say that you wouldn't have been ready to play after that.

Who's Ready for Some Football??

Tonight is the official beginning to the NFL season. The game tonight will be a rematch of last season's NFC Championship with the Vikings taking on the Super Bowl Champion Saints. If this game is anything like the championship game it WILL NOT disappoint. The Saints will be super hyped for their first game as defending champs. There is also the Reggie Bush drama surrounding the cheating scandal. Then there is of course Brett Farve returning for his almost 100th season. Check it out tonight at 8pm on NBC.

Vampire Diaries Season 2 Premiere

Its that time of year where all the Fall shows are starting up again. The first of my recommendations to start again is Vampire Diaries. If you love any kind of vampires, whether its True Blood or Twilight, I promise the drama in this show will keep you entertained. This is just the second season so you can easily rent the first season and catch up while you record the second season. In this season Katherine makes her return in a big way. I'm excited to see how this love rectangle is gonna work out. Damon is my personal favorite vampire but you can decide for your self this Thursday, September 9 at 8 pm.

Kanye Gets Deep on Twitter

So, this morning I woke and did my morning twitter check which, usually just involves late night tweets from my west coast friends. But today was different; today Kanye West graced the twitter world with his deep thoughts. He apologized to Taylor and the world 140 characters at a time. I not a big fan of him on twitter but today I was happy I was following him. So for those of you who don't have a twitter or have one but don't follow him here it is from start to finish. Enjoy.

Team USA Victorious in South Africa

The World Cup for group C began with team USA and England being the favorites to advance from the group but today as the last games of the group stage were about to begin both teams found themselves trailing Slovenia by 2 points. 

Of course there were multiple scenarios for either one, both, or neither of them to advance. The easy route for both teams to the round of 16 was simple; win and your in.

Our King Without a Crown or a Ring

As I am sure most of you know LeBron "King" James is probably the most hyped about player in any of the 3 major sports. He is currently in his 7th season of his highly talked about career and this season was supposed to be "the season" when he finally breaks through and wins that first NBA title. Yet, all the promise of this season has nearly faded and King James finds himself in a tough predicament. His team is now down 3-2 in a best of seven series with the Boston Celtics. Even with their home court advantage the Cavaliers have managed to lose 2 games at home in this series in which King James has played more like a peasant than a king. The much anticipated Game 6 is tonight in Boston at 8 p.m. EST (5 p.m.  PST). You can watch for yourself tonight on ESPN (for those of you not able to get to a t.v can watch the online broadcast on ESPN3.com ) and see if our King can keep hope alive for finally getting his ring and crown or if he will just be a lowly peasant until next season.

If You Love the Twilight Vampires Then You Will Love This

The season finale of the CW's Vampire Diaries is tonight. If you like everything vampire then you will love this show. Like Twilight Vampire Diaries is based off a series of books but unlike Twilight these books were written in the early 90's. I love this show! There is so much drama. It of course is complete with it's own love triangle; and what kind of love triangle would it be if it didn't have two vampire brothers in love with the same girl. Trust me when I tell you that you don't want to miss this season finale. Even if this will be your first episode I promise it will be worth it when the second season starts; and yes you will be dying to watch the second season. Anyways, the episode is tonight May 13 at 8 p.m. on the CW. Check out the season finale trailer below.

US Men's Preliminary 30-Man World Cup Roster Released

This morning I set my alarm clock to make sure that I was up at 11 a.m. so that I could watch the release of the US World Cup roster live. This roster for camp consist of 30 people, 7 of which will not be playing in South Africa next month because you can only carry 23 people on the roster to South Africa. Overall I am really excited about the players that were chosen. The roster is as follows: 

The Season and Possibly Series Finale of One Tree Hill

Well next Monday's episode of One Tree Hill will be the season finale to it's 7th season. It could also be the finale to the entire series, since the show has not yet been picked up by the CW for it's 8th season.

Amazing Race Season Finale

The season finale of CBS' "The Amazing Race" is tonight. The final 3 teams will be traveling to San Fransisco for the final leg of their trip around the world. My personal favorite team, the cowboy brothers Jet and Cord, will be departing 2nd. Dan and Jordan, who are also brothers, will be the 3rd team to depart. The first team to depart will be the surprise team Brent and Catie. Catie is famous for.. *how do I say this nicely*.. failing to articulate her thoughts correctly on the Miss Teen USA pageant. If you don't know what I am talking about Google her (Catie Upton). I am actually shocked at how well Catie and Brent have been doing in the race but I still want Jet and Cord to bring home the money. Regardless of who wins I know I will still enjoy watching the journey. Be sure to check out the season finale on CBS tonight at 8 pm.
